TRIVIA ANSWER: Letter B) Mark.
On November 30, the First Sunday of Advent,
we begin what is commonly referred to as Year B, when the
Gospel of Mark is read on most Sundays throughout the year
of 2009. We have just completed Year A (2008) in which we
read from Matthew’s Gospel. During 2010, Year C, we will
rotate to Luke’s Gospel. This three-year cycle of readings
at Mass, affords us the opportunity to hear each of the
Gospels almost in their entirety. Lest you think that the
Gospel of John is getting short-changed, know that John’s
Gospel is read occasionally during each of the three years
on major feast days and special solemnities.
I
hope you didn’t choose letters A or F as the answer to this
question, since they are not Gospels, at least not that we
know of in this period of history! Maybe if we discover a
new set of Dead Sea Scrolls, those Gospels will appear!
We’ll deal with that when it happens! |
