CCD BEGINS SEPTEMBER 21 |
|
CCD begins on Catechetical Sunday, the third
Sunday of September. Children and their parents
will meet in church after the 8:00 Mass
on September 21 and then be dismissed to their
rooms. We are grateful for the opportunity to
help parents with the faith formation of their
children. For this end, it is essential that
all children attending CCD also be participating
at Mass each weekend with their family.
In addition to the option of 5:00 Mass on
Saturday, CCD families can also choose to go to
8:00 Mass and then stay for CCD or go to 10:45
Mass after CCD is finished. Thank you for
making this a priority. |

CHILDREN NEW to CCD |
|
We are happy to welcome children from preschool
(age 4) through grade 8 into our parish CCD.
Parents with children who are new to CCD
(only those who did not attend last year) can
register them by calling Sr. Zoe Ann for an
appointment (964-8276 ext. 15). Please bring a
picture of the child (e.g., a school picture)
and a baptismal certificate for any child who
was not baptized at St. James Church.
Registration forms for children new to CCD at
St. James can be picked up from the kiosk in the
narthex. |

CHILDREN RETURNING to CCD
|
|
Parents of children returning to CCD can
pick up an emergency/medical form from the kiosk
in the narthex. Only one form per family needs
to be completed. Please bring a picture of each
child (e.g., a school picture) when you return
the form to Sr. Zoe Ann as soon as possible. |

ST. PAUL
|
|
The current issue of the Catholic Update focuses
on St. Paul, perhaps the most prominent
personality of the New Testament, other than
Jesus. Pope Benedict proclaimed this a special
year to honor St. Paul at the 200th
anniversary of his birth. This CU entitled
“Introducing St. Paul the Apostle: His Life and
Mission” is based on the Acts of the Apostles
and Paul’s many letters contained in the New
Testament. The author suggests that Paul
challenges us today to use our own culture in
order to share the message of Christ with
others. Pick up a free copy of the CU
each month from the table in the narthex. Read
it and see what you think. |

CONGRATULATIONS!
|
We rejoice that 12 young children joined us
at the Table of the Lord for the first time
recently. We appreciate the ministry of
catechist LESLEY HERMAN for helping the
parents in the preparation of these children
for this important sacrament in their faith
life. After Mass we participated in a May
Crowning at the outdoor shrine followed by a
reception in the Social Hall hosted by the
CWO. We look forward to worshipping with
our new communicants every Sunday as they
continue to be fed on the Body and Blood of
Christ at Mass. The children who celebrated
First Communion this year are:

GIFT SESSION |
We
had a wonderful time at our recent GIFT
sessions. Over 150 people gathered to learn
more about environmental issues that threaten
our Earth and how we can work together to
protect God’s creation. We were honored to have
with us parishioner Frank Romeo who
shared with the adults his very moving
meditation on soil. Inspired by his talk, words
from the Bible and our timely church documents
on this topic, we promised to take some steps,
be they small or large, and make changes in our
lifestyle individually, as a family, and as a
parish. If you have creative ideas about this,
be sure to let us know. Together we can do
more! |
|
“In dialogue with
Christians of different denominations, we need
to commit ourselves to caring for creation,
without squandering its resources, but instead
sharing in them in a collaborative way.” (Pope
Benedict XVI) |

FLOWERS
|
When
you come to Mass each weekend this summer, be
sure to notice the 200 pansies in the bed near
the main entrance to the church that were
donated by a generous family from our parish.
The children, teens, and adults at our last GIFT
session blessed the seedlings, sprinkled them
with holy water, incensed them with sage and
then planted them outside our church. (Now
God is watering them!) They are symbols of the
many "seeds" that were planted in our hearts and
minds at the GIFT session on Caring for God's
Creation. Like small seedlings that will grow,
mature and blossom to beautify our church,
we committed ourselves to do small actions to
take better care of our Earth, not only for
ourselves, but for all future generations.
